All Thermowood used in Swallow buildings and accessories is manufactured from quality red wood pine. The process involves kiln drying the timber which is then put in a special oven where a powerful compressor removes the air. The temperature is raised to 215 degrees which bakes the timber. The result seals the capillaries, destroys resins and proteins and stabilises the timber. The benefits of this process mean:

- All bacteria is killed, resulting in a sterile material
- Paints excellently and lasts up to three times longer

The process for oiling the Swallow garden buildings includes hanging all the components and frames and heavily spraying them to ensure all areas have been covered. The benefit of the oiling treatment includes reducing water stains and bleaching from the sun. The building will need to be oiled with one coat each year to get the maximum benefit of the treatment. This will also help to maintain the natural colour for many years.
