What You’ll need

Here are a few bits to add to this week’s shopping list for your egg hunt:

  • Baskets
You can buy small wicker baskets for the children to collect their eggs in. You can even customise them with pink and blue ribbons or name tags.
  • Chocolate Eggs or Eggs and Paint
If you want to use chocolate eggs be sure to buy a variety of sizes to make it more interesting! However, if you are looking to do a more traditional egg hunt you will need regular eggs and some washable paint to decorate them with.
  • Coloured Card
  • Extra prizes (optional)

 Decorating Eggs

If you have decided to get creative and decorate real eggs to hide, it’s really easy to do. Simply hard boil the eggs for 10 minutes and then once they have cooled, use the paints to decorate them in bright, fun colours. To make it more exciting you can decorate a few ‘golden’ eggs which earn bigger prizes.

Clue Cards

Once you have decorated your hard boiled eggs, or bought some yummy chocolate ones, you can start to create your clue cards.

Using the colourful card, cut out oval shaped egg cards and write fun clues on them. For example: ‘A pink flower might be eggsactly where to look’, “You’ll have eggstra chance near the bird house”.

Hiding the Eggs

Using clue cards is just a fun idea, but if you want to keep it simple you can just hide the eggs in random places all over the garden and let the kids run around finding them freely. Make sure you write down a list of all the locations that you have hidden them so none of them get left behind!

Hidden Easter eggs

Here are some ideas of where to hide the eggs in and around the garden:

  • Plant pots
  • Bird house / bird table
  • In bushes, trees, flowerbeds
  • On or behind benches, seats and furniture cushions
  • Under the BBQ
  • In the shed/greenhouse
  • Near the hose pipe
  • In the wheelbarrow
  • Behind garden tools
  • In an empty watering can
  • In hanging baskets
  • Under or near slides, swings or wendy houses
  • Balanced on a windowsill

Now you should be ready to have lots of fun on Easter Sunday with your Easter egg hunt, just be sure to save some chocolate for yourself! For more great garden ideas and decorations head over to our website.
