NEW Designs – Alton Victorian Cedar Greenhouses

Alton have been at the forefront of the Cedar greenhouse market since 1921. With their vast knowledge and experience, along with years of customer feedback, they have designed and created a Cedar greenhouse fit for the 21st Century; it is called the Alton Evolution. Now in 2019, they have added 2 new designs to the Evolution range which include porches onto their cedar greenhouses. These are the Cedar Half Boarded Durham range and the “Dwarf Wall” Elmhurst

The Victorian models also have period features. For example, both the Robinsons Victorian greenhouse and the Alton Victorian greenhouse have cast aluminium spandrels at both the eaves and the ridge. These add both strength and style to this kind of greenhouse.

Traditionally Victorian models may have had narrower glass panels than the now standard 2ft wide panels, however, the modern grower knows the value of high light transmission, so both the Robinsons aluminium Victorian and the Alton Cedar Victorian greenhouses have narrow glazing on the gable ends (for a Victorian look) and wider 2ft wide panels along the length for better growing conditions.

Alton Greenhouses use only use the finest Western Red Cedar Wood in the manufacture of their greenhouses. Cedar does not shrink, swell or warp excessively, and it’s virtually immune to decay by it’s naturally oily nature. It also has excellent insulating qualities and is naturally repellent to moths, insects and vermin. All Alton greenhouses come with full length toughened safety glass as standard and most feature concrete base kerbs for extra rigidity and rot resistance. Independent scientific tests proved that Alton Greenhouses provide a superior growing environment when compared to aluminium greenhouses.
