Gardener’s Diary – Top Tips for June 2019

Enjoy our monthly Gardener’s diary for some fantastic tips on how to keep your garden going through all of the seasons.

Plant Summer Bedding

Now the risk of frost has passed, get planting your baskets, containers and flower beds. Make sure at the time of planting that the soil is damp and rake the ground to remove any large clods or stones. Handle the plants by leaves or root-balls. When planting, ensure the root-ball is just below the soil surface. Make sure they are firmly in the soil and then water using a watering can. This will provide a beautiful display throughout the summer months.

Choose the right tools

Whether you are digging, hoeing, clipping, pruning or edging, we have the right tool for the job. Check out our great range of quality tools from Wilkinson Sword, Wolf, Felco, Gardener’s Mate and more. Wolf tools are perfect for someone who perhaps has lack of storage space. They offer different head attachments, so you simply clip on the tool on the end of the Wolf handle rather than storing lots of tools. Simple and convenient!

Food, Glorious Food!

Flowers, shrubs, vegetables, and lawns all need regular feeding to keep them in top shape. For the best results, feed throughout the growing season. TOP TIP – Tomorite is good for any veggie plant.

Deal with the weeds

Weeds love the Summer! Hoe the borders regularly to keep down weeds. For a chemical treatment, we recommended SBK, Weedol or Roundup.

Love your pond

June is the perfect time to plant up your pond and add in some more fish. Choose from our great range of aquatic plants to spruce up your pond from £1.10, along with some fish to bring your pond to life. Visit us here in the Aquatics Department of the garden centre to see the beautiful fish, tanks and other accessories. Call their direct line for the best advice and information on 0116 267621.
