Easy Halloween recipes
Halloween is right around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than with a haunted BBQ party! For some really spooky fun, try these four easy Halloween recipes. Quick and simple to make, they’re sure to go down a treat with kids and grownups alike:
Jack-o-lantern cheeseburgers
Serves 8
Ingredients:
8 1/4lb beef burgers
8 thin slices cheddar cheese
8 burger buns
Tomato ketchup
1. Use a large cookie cutter to trim the edges of each cheese slice, turning them into circles.
Tip: Keep the edges of your cheese – they’ll come in handy for the recipe below!
2. Use a knife to carefully cut the shape of a jack-o-lantern face, into each slice. Triangles work well for a nose and eyes, with a zigzag shape for the mouth.
3. Grill your beef burgers on the BBQ, until they are cooked through.
4. Place each burger into a bun, with a ‘jack-o-lantern’ cheese slice on top. The dark colour of the burger will show through the gaps, making your jack-o-lantern face come to life!
Tip: For added gore, squirt some tomato ketchup across the top half of your burgers before adding the cheese, to create blood-red jack-o-lantern eyes!
Serves 8
Ingredients:
8 pork sausages
8 hot dog buns
Tomato ketchup
Mustard
3 slices cheddar cheese, cut into small fingernail shapes
1. Grill your sausages on the BBQ until they are cooked through.
2. Spread a thin layer of tomato ketchup into your hot dog buns.
3. Place a sausage into each bun and use a knife to score short lines horizontally across each, to look like knuckles.
4. Add a pea sized drop of mustard to the end of each sausage and stick a small shard of cheese onto each, to look like a yellow fingernail.
5. For an alternative to cheese, try using small sections of fried onion. Tip: You could even make green witch’s nails by using a dollop of pesto or a pointy slice of pepper.
Serves 8
Ingredients:
8 of your favourite cookies
8 white marshmallows
24 milk or dark chocolate drops
1 tub white frosting
1. Place each marshmallow carefully onto the end of a wooden stick and lightly soften them over the heat of your BBQ. Be careful not to let them go gooey!
2. Remove the sticks and place a marshmallow onto the middle of each of your cookies. If they are slightly softened, they should stick nicely to each base.
3. Allow the marshmallows to cool for a few minutes, then take a knife and gently spread the white frosting over the top of each.
4. Take the frosting all the way down the marshmallows and onto the cookies, forming the shapes of little ghosts.
5. Lastly, add chocolate drops to the front of each marshmallow, to look like the ghost’s eyes and mouth.
Serves 8Ingredients:
8 x 200ml cartons of premade chocolate milkshake
16 of your favourite cookies
16 jelly ‘worm’ sweets
1. Pour your chocolate milkshake into eight clear glasses.
2. Break up your cookies into smaller than bite-sized chunks and drop two cookies worth into each glass, to look like earth. For a finer ‘gravel’ appearance, blend the cookies for a couple of seconds.
3. Add two jelly ‘worms’ to each glass and use a spoon to position them amongst the dirt, so they are visible through the glass.
4. Add a straw to each glass so the ‘worms’ and ‘dirt’ are gradually revealed as you drink.
