Real vs. Artificial Christmas Tree

One of the big questions every Christmas is what Tree do I buy, real or artificial?

Everyone’s needs are different and there are pro’s and con’s to both, so here we will compare each one to make the decision easy for you this year.

Real

Having a real tree is seen as the more traditional choice and they do bring a lovely feel in to the home. The advantages of using a real tree are:

• The fresh scent instantly reminds of Christmas
• A variety of choices to choose from so you can get the perfect size for your home
• Good for the environment as they take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen
• Jobs are created through the business of harvesting the trees
• Every time a tree is cut down another one is planted to ensure continual growth

However, the cons of the real Christmas tree are:

• They make a mess when the needles fall off
• If not maintained correctly they can create a fire hazard
• Can only be left up for a few weeks
• It’s difficult to get a large tree home once bought
• They need to be disposed of properly

Artificial

There’s been a rise in the number of artificial trees bought over the past decade; here are the advantages of choosing a faux Christmas tree:

• It can be bought as early as you want and then stored until Christmas
• Cost effective as they can be reused every year
• There’s no mess to clean up from needles so they’re low maintenance
• There is no safety hazard as they are flame retardent
• Transport and storage is easy as they pack down in to a box

The cons of choosing the artificial tree are:

• Don’t look as natural as they’re made from synthetic material
• It takes time to assemble the tree
• Requires appropriate storage space to be kept till the following year
• A lot of the trees are made abroad so there’s no economic advantage
• Going to choose a tree every year is a tradition and this is lost with the artificial choice
